IF YOU MISSED CLASS:

SO...

Obviously we had online class on Wednesday. That means that
there was work for you to do. Some of you did it, and some did not.
For those who have completed their proposals and uploaded them,
you have no homework.

For those who either did not "attend" class Wednesday or simply
did not do the work, you still have a proposal due. It was due
Wednesday at midnight, but you may NOT work on Unit 3 without
an approved proposal.

So submit your proposals to Blackboard in Unit 3
if I have not already gotten yours.
- please watch the Powerpoint on "Reading and Links" on Unit 3
- please read this handout BEFORE you turn yours in.

Proposals are worth 50 points (5% of your grade), so you want to
do well, especially since I will NOT do revisions on these unless
your proposal is rejected. Get these to me ASAP.

FOR MONDAY, FEB. 29

Nothing is due unless I rejected your proposal, which is (was) due
on Wed. Feb. 24 at 11:59 pm on Bb in the "HW and Other" folder
on Bb.

IF YOU MISSED CLASS.
Many of you did not participate in class on Wednesday and lost
credit for that. So if you didn't show up, go to the "Readings and
Links" page of the wiki and watch the Powerpoint. Then go to
the "Course Materials" page and follow the instructions for your
proposals. You will lose 5% per day the proposals are late, so
be sure to turn them in pronto!

FOR WEDNESDAY, FEB. 24

WE ARE MEETING ONLINE TODAY!!!
PLEASE GO TO BLACKBOARD PROMPTLY AT CLASS TIME
AND THERE YOU WILL FIND INSTRUCTIONS.

FOR MONDAY, FEB. 22

- We have Exam 2 on Monday. The reading is on the "Readings and
Links" page of the wiki. Please read the article before coming to
the exam. You may print it out and bring it with you, including
notes.

Monday, Feb. 22, at 11:59 pm.

Wednesday, Feb. 24. Please email me with your ideas!

FOR WEDNESDAY, FEB. 17

group page for your class 24 hours before your class time.
This means if you have class at 2:00 Wednesday, you must have
your paper on the wiki by 2:00 Tuesday. Please
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY on the page to upload.
Either print out the two paper you read or have a laptop in class
REMINDER: 3:30 CLASS: WE ARE IN ANS 151 ON WEDNESDAY

IF YOU MISSED CLASS:
We went over formatting the title page, writing the abstract, page
formatting, and citing issues for APA. You will be responsible for
looking this up on your own and doing it correctly on your paper.

FOR MONDAY, FEB. 15

Rough draft of Unit 2 due. Please bring a digital copy so you can
work on it on the computer.

IF YOU MISSED CLASS
Please go to the "Course Materials" page and at the top, under
"Unit Three Materials" is a handout explaining your proposal
that will be due in two weeks for your Unit 3 project. Keep this
deadline in mind and start brainstorming about your project,
which can be on anything locally researchable that deals with
writing and/or rhetoric and/or language.

FOR WEDNESDAY, FEB. 10

Please have all your research done (6 sources) and have read
them all. Any kind of source is acceptable--no need for academic
sources (although you can use them, too). But reference materials
(dictionaries, wikipedia, etc.) can only be used in addition
to the required 6 sources. Please bring them to class (links
to them are fine).

IF YOU MISSED CLASS:
Please email me and tell me what you want to write your paper on.
We got started on creating a references page in APA
so go to Purdue OWL and look up how to do that.

FOR MONDAY, FEB. 8

Please write up a short paragraph about what you would like to write
your next paper on. Remember that it has to be a mediation paper,
so you want it to have a sense of controversy to it, and it should
have depth. And it has to have something to do with how humans
use words/are rhetorical.

IF YOU MISSED CLASS:
Read the handout in "Course Materials' for Unit 2. We spent the
whole day working on understanding what a mediated paper is and
possible topics for the paper, so that really can't be made up. Ask
a classmate if you would like to be filled in.

FOR WEDNESDAY, FEB. 3

Please go to the "Readings and Links" page. Find your name and
read the two articles below your name. As you read, jot down as
many ideas as you can that answer the question above the readings.

you would like and bring it to class with you, and be prepared to write
about it.

as it is considered a weak verb. I will be grading you on this, so you
will want to work on getting rid of is, are, were,
and was

FOR WEDNESDAY, JAN. 27

1. READ (all on "Course Materials" page under "General Materials"):
- Handout on intros and conclusions
- Handout on thesis statements
- Rubric for Unit 1 paper
2. WRITE:
- Peer review draft due. Please bring 3 hard copies to class.
IF YOU MISSED CLASS:
- We had a style lesson on semi-colons, colons, and dashes.
You should look up how to use these punctuation tools and
implement them in your Unit 1 paper. I will be grading them.
- We created vomit drafts by typing for 10 minutes without your screen
turned on. You should try it.
- We had a lecture on the rhetorical situation (based on the reading).
You may want to get notes from a friend/classmate.
